10 reviews for DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60V MAX* Circular Saw with Brake Kit, 7-1/4-Inch (DCS578X1)

Here’s a concise review for Amazon:

I recently purchased the FLEXVOLT® 60V MAX* Brushless 7-1/4 in. Cordless Circular Saw with Brake Kit, and it has been amazing. This was my first 60V tool from DEWALT, and it exceeded my expectations. The power and performance are fantastic, making cutting tasks a breeze and comfortable to use. The electric brake, integrated LED light, and overall build quality make it a top-notch tool. Great battery life and the weight is better than I thought. Highly recommended!

I haven’t made a lot of cuts with this saw yet or put it through abuse, but in initial usage it’s power is indistinguishable from a corded circular, and overall seems well built/put together. I try not to fawn over any company, but I like dewalt’s professional grade portable equipment and have invested in their battery line, and feel that this saw lives up to their reputation. There are a few parts where I question the decision to go with plastic such as where the otherwise metal blade guard mounts to the pivot/spring back mechanism. Although dewalt may be able to show specs of the plastic to be sufficiently robust vs metal which can be bent I’m still left questioning, why not go with an all metal guard. These plastic choices do not “feel” cheap in the worst kind of planned obsolescence way, and were probably driven by weight and other manufacturing considerations as this is a fairly heavy saw. A smaller individual with less upper body strength, and depending how many cuts per day you make through what sized material, may opt for a smaller model. Finally, measurement engravings on the base plate might need a little paint added to consistently read the markings due to the choice of metal/color. If these were etched just a little deeper they would hold the sawdust and read just fine. Will report back on device and battery longevity.

Saw has great power and makes my projects simpler. Much safer than my other circular saw because of blade brake.

I ran an 18v circular saw for a long time and was always disappointed. I could only get a few cuts before the battery went dead, and there just wasn’t enough power which meant the saw would kick-back frequently with even the slightest binding. After I started converting my tools to 20v (and the much improved 20v Li batteries), things improved, but still sucked. I still could only get about 1 cumulative minute of cuts before a 5AH battery was completely drained.

This year I finally had a project where I could justify upgrading my old 18v saw to the latest and greatest. I considered switching from Dewalt to Bosch, but in the end decided to try out the new 60v Dewalt with a new 20/60 9AH/3AH battery. I am finally happy. I worked over 3 hours cutting a bunch of Doug Fir 2x6s for my first use.

    The pros:
you notice the power. Granted, my old 18v saw is … old, but the new saw has far more power to the blade. I didn’t have a single kick-back from the saw.

Next is the battery life. With each cut I paid attention to whether or not I could feel a change due to battery power loss. I could not. The battery is much larger, but even still I was impressed.

This may sound minor, but one of the improvements they made to this saw compared to my old 18v saw is that the battery slides down the battery holder rather than up, or straight in when the saw is in the upright position. This makes changing out batteries much easier and faster.

Finally, I still had all the functionality that I’ve gotten used to with Dewalt tools. I easily adjusted depths and angles and was able to put things back to normal settings with minimal time and effort.

    Cons:
Heft. Largely due to the Flex battery (~2x larger and heavier than a regular 5AH 20v battery), this saw takes a little more muscle to move around. It’s still far more convenient than a cord’d saw, but after a few cuts the extra weight is more than apparent.

Visibility. This might just be me… as a weekend warrior and not a professional contractor – This saw did change the visibility of the cut lines. Lining up the blade to start the cut, and using the front of the saw to finish the cut is ‘different’ than my old 18v saw. In the beginning, cuts were taking much longer due to me orienting the saw before pulling the trigger. Throw in the extra weight, and this is not a great user experience. My guess is this will improve over time.

IT DOES USE UP A BATTERY QUICKLY , YOU DEFINETELY NEED A BACKUP CHARGED BATTERY

  6. samuel robins

Excellent saw bag and charger, as for battery it is as describe but i have 2 charges it lasted half the time
my 20v dewalt saw or less lasted on same cuts.

example, cut 20v dewalt saw with norm 2 amp battery way over 100 cuts not sure how many but way over.

60 amp battery with this 60v I got 20 cuts and battery dead(that after charging first before using it to make sure full)…2nd charge got about 40 cuts and batter dead for cutting 2x4s to length and 3 to 4 sheets of lp smart cross cuts. So I left the battery on charger even though showing fully charge all night and trying cuts see if charger just not posting right or battery has issues. If I have issues i contact seller then see if can get resolve then update my review here. Outside that everything is new top quality, all of it and models are all dewalt on ever item and very decent price given so 5 giving review.

Dewalt DCS578X1 flexvolt 20/60 max brushless 71/4″ circular saw- cordless

There isn’t anything bad to really say about this kit! The dewalt quality that you expect.! The 60 volt advantage of the battery in conjunction with the up graded electronics will deliver the power that you need to get through the most toughest and challenging jobs with ease; much like quality corded tools.Yes more battery juice may be used in tough conditions, but these 9Ah 20/60 flexvolt batteries are designed to last and two should get you through a day of gratifying normal, (not abusive) use. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, and enjoy doing projects around the home, this could be a life time tool for you. Also just a note: these 20/60 flex volt batteries have a 6 pin connection between tool and battery and I believe should fit most flexvolt xr and power advantage 20 volt brushless tools, but may not fit your older 20 volt brushed tools. Good to know if your building a collection on a budget and do not want to buy repeat tools; just ask.

And now the goods: I bought this kit from an outfit called B.C. Fasteners. They offer some good deals it seems outside the normal times when you would expect deals and they seem to offer that old time customer service that many claim but fail to deliver. Many want your money but never want to hear from you again, good or bad, or solve a problem that you could experience. The kit package that I ordered was not available and not knowing when they may get their next delivery in this time of covid-19, they phoned me, (half way across the country), and asked if they could provide other options so that I would not have to wait, and could recieve my order in a timely fashion and enjoy my new tool(toy). Everything arrived quickly, in fact the fastest delivery time I have ever experience- three(3) days. Thankyou; 6 stars and 2 thumbs up!! I have since purchased more from this outfit, enough said.
