I love my Ryobi ONE+ 18V drill, so I thought this heat gun would be a sure win to add to my Ryobi tools to make use of my batteries. I usually use a corded heat gun, but was tired of constantly fighting with the cord around the garage. Unfortunately, this cordless heat gun turned out to be a huge disappointment. It barely spits out any airflow at all, with much less heat than a hairdryer. Other reviews have mentioned battery life is disappointing as well, but I’m not sure I’ll find a good use for it to find out. It doesn’t have much more heat in it than my breath.

Okay, let’s talk about the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless Heat Gun (P3150). When it works (which it now does), it’s an absolute tool dream—lightweight, powerful, and perfect for a variety of tasks. The fact that it’s cordless is a huge win for anyone who hates dealing with tangled wires while trying to heat up materials or strip paint. It’s quick, efficient, and I’m honestly loving how convenient it is for my DIY projects.
But here’s the catch: when I first received the heat gun, it was like the universe decided to play a cruel joke on me. It didn’t work. At all. I thought, “Hey, no worries, it’s Ryobi, I’ll just charge it up and get to work.” Spoiler alert: It didn’t work after charging. I checked everything, fiddled with it, and was ready to throw in the towel.
After a frustrating exchange process (which, let’s be real, was not exactly fun), I got a new one. This one works like a charm. It heats up quickly, has the perfect temperature for a variety of uses, and I’m back to loving Ryobi as much as I did before. It’s the kind of heat gun that makes you feel like a pro in the garage or workshop. The ergonomics are great, it’s comfortable to hold, and it gets the job done without breaking a sweat.
But, yeah, the first one didn’t work—and that little hiccup did take away from the overall experience. I’m knocking off a star for the hassle I had to go through, but now that I’ve got a working one, I’m totally satisfied.
So, if you’re in the market for a reliable, cordless heat gun, just make sure you get a good one from the start, and you’ll be golden. 4 stars—would be 5 if I didn’t have to deal with the initial hiccup, but once it’s working, it’s perfect.

I have a ton of Ryobi cordless tools, but this one probably is my least favorite. I tried using it on a cold day to heat up some heat-shrink butt tubing outside and it didn’t do the job. It ate up a 4ah battery in a few minutes and didn’t fully shrink the tubing, had to break out the corded one.
This tool might be okay for a quick, indoor small job, but not for my needs when I’m doing a wiring job on the trailer, etc.

I never liked that my old heat gun had a thick cord, because the cord would have its way with the heat gun, knocking it over if I bumped it because there was too much tension in the cord. Having a battery-powered heat gun is so elegant, and it’s free-standing! Heats quickly, works great!

We have multiple of these on hand, at all times, for personal/professional use and for clients that we do granite Columbarium’s for. We use them for safe removal of granite niche panels during Winter months when things freeze. Excellent products.

I needed a heat gun to remove some old tint from my car, and during my search, I discovered that Ryobi offers a heat gun compatible with their One+ line. Works pretty good for what I need it to do,=.

heats up quickly. Good for those offsite jobs that a plugin would not work. Typical Ryobi hi quality

Limited around the house & garage use has been great. Not a regular user of the device.
Heat output has met my needs. Battery life has lasted through any of my small projects. Even my attempt to kill weeds around & on my patio.
I have tried using it to kill weeds between patio bricks and it doesn’t work well.
