Our son talked us into buying one of these because he uses one in his industrial arts class at school. We have been using it to sand down our deck prior to treating it. The sander does work very well and it is easy to change the sandpaper on it, my 13 year old son does use this and apply it to our decks with ease. I was skeptical until we got it and started to use it. I do recommend this to anybody. It is a good price and value for what you get. For a homeowner it works great .

Needed a belt sander to tackle some larger projects so I found this Craftsman whilst looking for something in between a cheap POS and $100+ sander. Plenty of power and easy to use. If you have not used one before, I would recommend getting a feel for it on some scrap wood as it can be quite the work out. Overall, for the price it’s pretty solid and works well.

    Here’s some 2 cents from a carpenter (30 year’s experience) & tool nerd…
I bought this specifically because the small nose & flip-up front allows me to effectively sand more profiles/tight spots when repairing with epoxy (which I use a lot both interior & exterior). It’s great for this specific purpose, BUT I’m not typically running it for long periods of time nor just powering through something for which I’d use my old Porter Cable tank of a belt sander. These are “hit and run” spot sanding repairs. I can’t imagine trying to use this thing to sand flooring or large flat surfaces. It’s a screamer & the motor doesn’t seem like it would in any way survive heavy tasks like this. It’s really light, which is another plus when working on a ladder overhead, but that benefit doesn’t contribute to effectively removing material on floors or large flat areas. Totally understand not wanting to shell out the $ for a high end belt sander if your job is limited or you just want one for ransoms jobs around the house, but I’d suggest looking at others in this price range. I also have had a Ryobi (not great) & still have a Rigid (really good) that are similarly priced to this. I cut the plastic nose off the Rigid to facilitate what the smaller nose/roller of the Craftsman provides, but would also use it as an all-around when I didn’t need the grunt of the PC. It’s held up extremely well, decent tracking, not too loud. If you don’t need the smaller nose & are looking for a basic, inexpensive belt sander to have on hand, I’d def recommend the Rigid as a contender.
Also, I didn’t find the tracking of Craftsman to be problematic, but I don’t put a lot of pressure on it nor am I sanding really hard material like oak flooring.

This belt sander operates at a single speed which is good for control when working and offers an adjustment nob to keep the belt tracking straight. The quick release lever for changing belts is great as is the quick release lever for changing the handle position. Annoyingly, the sander’s motor blasts air towards the user (if you’re right handed) causing you to get covered in dust. The catch bag doesn’t work well enough to justify it being there. My biggest complaint is when sanding a flat surface, the machine digs in at the front and back of the rollers. This means you’ll have a tough time of nice, level sanding on say a table. Overall this is a decent product, and with the right grit, makes quick work of it.

This was purchased to smooth out some subfloor for a small bathroom remodel.

I was pleasantly surprised at the size to power ratio, as well as the edging ability. Changing belts is a breeze. If you need a small sander to add to your toolbox, you could do a whole lot worse than this one.

This works great for all my projects. This was corded so that was a downside to it, it works well overall.

This sander was perfect for a tough task, sanding one layer of paint off the ceiling of the veranda which took several hours. I would definitely recommend this tool over similar brands.
