10 reviews for DEWALT Angle Grinder, 4.5 Inch, 11 Amp, With Paddle Switch (DWE402)

  1. Amazon Customer

As someone who has purchased many DeWalt products before, including their cordless hammer drill, regular drill, and reciprocating saw, I recently added the DEWALT Angle Grinder Tool (DWE402) to my arsenal, and it’s yet another testament to DeWalt’s commitment to quality and innovation.

This angle grinder is a powerhouse, thanks to its 11 Amp AC/DC motor that delivers an impressive 11,000 RPM. Whether I’m grinding, cutting, or sharpening, this tool is designed for faster material removal and higher overload protection, making quick work of even the toughest tasks.

One of the standout features of this grinder is its Dust Ejection System, which ensures durability by ejecting damaging dust and debris particles that enter the grinder through the air intake vents. This not only prolongs the life of the tool but also helps maintain optimal performance, even in dusty work environments.

I also appreciate the low profile gear case, which allows me to access tight spaces with ease. Combined with the quick-change wheel release feature, which allows for tool-free wheel removal, this grinder offers unmatched convenience and versatility.

Safety is paramount when working with power tools, and the DEWALT Angle Grinder doesn’t disappoint in this regard. The paddle switch with safety lock-off prevents accidental start-up, giving me peace of mind during operation. Additionally, the one-touch guard allows for 360-degree rotation in a single action, ensuring maximum protection and flexibility.

As someone who values compatibility and ease of use, I’m pleased to find that this grinder comes with matching wheel flanges, allowing the use of common accessories without any hassle.

In conclusion, the DEWALT Angle Grinder Tool (DWE402) is a must-have for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike. With its powerful performance, durability, and safety features, it’s a versatile tool that delivers exceptional results every time. Whether you’re a seasoned tradesperson or a weekend warrior, this grinder is sure to impress with its reliability and precision.

I’m a Milwaukee fan, but dewalts a good brand and great price, and corded is best of course unless your in the field.
great power, feels good in hands, good trigger on it. no complaints

  3. mike

The durability, balance, comfort, and value you expect from dewalt. This grinder fits my hands well and can grind for hours a day

  4. Steven Obriant

Works well plenty of power 11 amps has a 5/8 arbor you can use thread on wire brush and or grinding wheels but still can use 7/8 arbor with the supplied hardware has a heavy duty cord at about 6 feet and the guard is easy to adjust the paddle switch is very easy to use and it has a switch lock I highly recommend this grinder for versatility, power, value and in my experience with quite a large handful of grinders I’ve used this one is one stands above all the 4 1/2in. grinders I’ve owned hope this review helps with your decision great day forward.

  5. Central Hydraulics

The grinder works as it should.

I’ve had it now for a few months. Lots of cutting and wire cup work. I’ve hit the paddle switch a couple times accidentally but never hurt myself. Very powerful compared to my past experience with the dewalt 20V and $25 cheap wired ones. I recommend it.

  7. Franklin Brown

These grinder runs a lot faster than my old grinder and hit ground and cut faster, which is a plus I really recommend it is a nice grinder It’s a seven amp for my old was a five amp

  8. Clay N. Cowgill

Quieter and more powerful than the previous model (which I still have and that has hundreds? thousands? of hours on over the last seven years), I *really* like the DWE402K.

Admittedly, I take off the safety shield (bad consumer), but for most applications the adjustable feature of it would seem to work well. The ability to lock the tool in an ‘on’ position can save some hand fatigue over long grinding sessions and the long cord is convenient.

The carrying case seems the same as years prior. A little more storage space for other discs would be nice, but it does its job.

If you’re used to Dewalt’s older “wrench” type wheel fastening system, the switch to an Allen wrench takes a little getting used to. Personally, I find that the Allen wrench is a bit more finicky to align and use, but since the old two-prong wrench works fine I don’t find it an inconvenience.

This model seems a little heavier than the previous generation, but it makes up for it with more power and less roar. The removable handgrip I’m still a bit on the fence about. I liked the older soft/rubberized grip, but the one that comes with the DWE402K is a hard plastic. On the plus side, the hard plastic doesn’t get torn up like the soft rubber does. The smoother operation also seems to produce less vibration, so the harder plastic may be a better deal in the long run from a durability standpoint. (Worst case, Amazon sells the original soft-grip handles as a replacement part and they fit on this new model just fine in case you prefer the softer handle over the hard one.)

All in all, I don’t have much to fault and by every important measure this is a worthy successor to Dewalt’s prior model. I suspect it will run without incident for years to come.

I have a smaller 4in Makita angle grinder that I’ve used for years. And while it’s mostly gotten the job done, it’s become increasingly more difficult to find all of the 4in wheels and brushes that are available for the slightly larger 4-1/2 in grinders. Finally I decided to buy the Dewalt Angle Grinder Tool, 4-1/2-Inch, 11-Amp (DWE402K). This thing is a beast! Because this thing is such a powerful little machine (11 amps at 11,000 rpm), I strongly urge anyone buying this angle grinder to read all of the instructions, including ALL of the stuff about safety. Seriously – this is not a toy. This is a high-powered machine designed to do some really tough work. When turned on, it will almost jump out of your hands if you’re not expecting the torque this thing has. I’ve come to buy numerous different wheels and brushes and this has been a pure joy to use. It is such a well-designed machine. The DWE402K comes with the basic DWE402 grinder, but includes a hard plastic case which I really like. While my new Dewalt grinder hasn’t been in its case since I bought it, I like having cases for all my shop tools. When finished with a project and I’m cleaning up my shop, I like to clean up all of my tools and put them away in their respective cases together with any special tools or attachments. The dewalt comes with an allen wrench which I’ve never needed (stays in the case). And (sadly) there’s not much spare room in the case for extra wheels or brushes. As for the grinder itself – I really like it for its design and ability to do real work. On some grinders, the guard is more of a pain because it’s always in the way and can’t be easily adjusted. So it’s taken off and never put back on. That’s shameful. Always use your guard, it’s there to protect you. The guard on the Dewalt is genius. This guard is designed the way all guards should be. It can be easily rotated 360 degrees to any direction (read the instructions so you understand exactly how this works – and never try to adjust the guard without unplugging the grinder first) and the guard can be completely removed if ever needed. The 5/8in spindle is perfectly designed for quick changing wheels and brushes. The spin-on and off feature makes this a truly tool-less grinder. No special tools are needed to remove and replace wheels and brushes. Just twist them off an on with your hand. Again – unplug the grinder first – right?! The grinder also comes with a pair of 5/8in-to-7/8in “arbor” or a flat-washer-looking-thing for compressing wheels that don’t spin-on to the spindle using threads, but rather have a larger clearance-hole, non-threaded diameter hole for mounting. It’s a great system that requires no tools. The on-off control for the grinder is a simple paddle wheel with a built-in safety switch … it’s a breeze to use. Very comfortable. There’s also an over-ride lock so you don’t have to continuously hold down the paddle switch when working on large areas at a time. The power cord is tough but it’s only 6ft long which in my mind seems a little short. My personal preference would be an 8ft or 10ft power cord. The only other improvement would be some sort of easy sky-hook to hang the grinder on the side of a bench or table. Bottom line, this Dewalt DWE402K Angle Grinder is the bomb! If you have serious work that needs to be done – this is the defacto standard in angle grinders. Seriously, this is one powerful and potentially dangerous beast of a tool in the wrong hands. For me – this is exactly what I was looking for! Be careful out there!

I’m new to powertools and this seemed easy enough to use. It worked great! But now I don’t work. I wish it came with a man with strong arms because now I have tendinitis in my arm. I also kept the power button locked down and I lost grip on it. It fell out of my hands, hit my clothes, twirled up in my pants and ripped them off exposing my ass. There were swear words. True story. So now my pants are ruined but thankfully there was no blood. Just pain and trauma. But I have a project I’m proud of thanks to this tool and a story to tell.
