    Best pvc production tool ever

I’m an HVAC contractor. We use 2″ PVC pipe regularly for venting high efficiency furnaces. Was looking for a manual ratchet type cutter for the PVC, instead of the reciprocating saw and chopsaws we had been using, when I came upon this product. Figured it was worth a try, as it costs roughly the same as a manual cutter.

Have been using it on the job for several weeks, and it is great! Cuts the pipe “like butter.” It’s fast, less than five seconds per cut. My helper, who normally dislikes new tools, loves it too. We have made over two hundred cuts since we got it, no problems. The cuts are clean and square, no burrs or shavings. It’s easy to trim a pipe in place when you need to take off just a little to get the right pitch. Initially I was worried that cuts at the very end of the pipe would crush the pipe instead of cutting cleanly, but have not found that to be the case, at least with the solid core 2″ PVC that we use. As long as there’s about an inch past the blade it cuts fine.

I was so impressed with this “M-12” tool that I picked up a Milwaukee compact driver kit, and when there was a Gold box special, another compact driver and inspection camera kit, so as to have extra batteries and chargers. The driver drill is ok… haven’t found anything to replace the great convertible Ridgid driver drills that are now out of production, but this PVC cutter is a keeper. Will probably try the copper cutter too.

Always needed one of these and when a big irrigation job came along involving installing over 1200′ of 1 & 2″ PVC pipe with a few hundred fittings, figured it’d be the time to get one. Well worth the investment, makes clean cuts easily, saves a lot of time, easy on the older arthritic hands, the battery life is great, and no noticeable wear on the blade so far. This is a nice package, with tool, battery, charger and case. I bought an extra battery, and there’s a spot in the case for an extra, so that was handy. Nice to see that Amazon carries the replacement blades, also.

I am very pleased with how much time this tool has saved me time. I work with a lot of PVC conduit in my electrical business and previously I used a hack saw. I tried a ratchet type shear but it caused a burr on the cut piece. The PVC Shear leaves hardly any noticeable burr and it is fast.

    Various observations . . .

Quickly cuts any size pvc up to 2’’

    Cuts clean, straight across

Battery lasted me several days of regular use

Light and comfortable for one-handed use

Bright red color easy to identify in tool bag

    Compact enough for most spaces

    Watch out for . . .

Cuts so fast that older, brittle pvc will explode (sigh)

Cannot rest tool on fitting and cut (cracked pipe)

Left in direct sunlight on hot day – battery slow . . . ed down (recovered in shade)

    Well . . .

My old pvc cutters are no longer in tool bag

Still use cordless sawsall for old piping

What is the name of the inventor?

I need to send a special thanks!

You will need to use some type of saw to cut PVC that has been exposed to the sun for a long time because PVC becomes brittle from UV light and will shatter when being squeezed under pressure. This cutter will work perfectly on PVC that is still pliable.

I had 1-1/2″ PVC pipes that I installed back in 2012 running to an index valve and this cutter shattered (as expected) all 3 pipes that were above ground, however it worked absolutely perfectly on the underground portion of those pipes. I replaced my sprinkler index valve with individual valves so I made a manifold using various fittings and probably made about 30 cuts on 1-1/2″ pipes. The cuts were all straight and clean which speeds up the installation time as well as not having to worry about clogging your sprinklers with plastic debris. This cutter also made it easy to cut the pipes as they lay in narrow trenches since all you need to do is place the pipe in the jaws and pull the trigger. The tool has a button for forward and reverse as well as a button to pop the blade open to the starting position. The entire cut process takes about 4 seconds and saves a lot of hand muscle from using manual cutters. Mine came with a standard case and a battery but I wish they offered a Packout case version.

This is an out of the box review no field experience yet. Right out of the box tested the pic sheers out on 1-1/2 and 2 inch abs pipe. The tool cut through every piece like butter. Bought this tool for finish connections on kitchen and basin sinks as a hand saw is not always ideal for cutting in a finished home and they make a mess.

No more wasting time using a pipe cutter, turning around the pipe, twist in 1/4 inch at a time till cut is made through the pipe.

    Wish I got this sooner

Works great. Just to to be aware that she trying to cut off small pieces 11/2″ or less of schedual 40 636 vent pipe, that it will squeeze the pipe to the point that it just shatters to pieces. But cut anything longer is great. Only wished that it had some kind clip like their cordless drills to hang it from you belt.

I am a pool professional. As part of that business I make PVC plumbing repairs and I upgrdade equipment. I used to use a hand saw or a recip saw to cut PVC pipe. The hand saw was tedious and the recip saw was too heavy. Both of these left jagged, uneven cuts and a handfull of shavings. When I saw the Milwaukee Cordless PVC Shears I just had to try them. I figured I’d return them if they were just another gimmick. I almost did a cartwheel the first time I used them!!!! The shears cut 2″ shcedule 40 pipe in about 3 seconds. The cut is clean, straight, and free of shavings. A few things you need to know: 1) maximum on schedule 80 is 1.5″. 2) older pipe may crack and therefore EYE PROTECTION IS IMPERATIVE. The older the pipe the easier it cracks. I still use a hand saw to cut older pipe if I want to salvage the cut area. 3) Be aware of where your fingers are! This cutter has a lot of tourqe and it doesn’t know the difference between pipe and fingers. There is a “think twice” trigger unlock button. They put it in a spot which makes it cumbersome to push it and pull the trigger at the same time. This is my only negative comment ans is a small price to pay for the ease with which these shears work.
